The Beat of The Shire in Caringbah, NSW held their first jam for the year on February 7th and going by coach Paul Christie's comments, it was one of the most vibrant jams he's ever experienced. MIKE WHITNEY – CRICKETER, TV HOST AND WEEKEND WARRIOR

POSTED BY ROB ON Feb 9, 2016 IN Uncategorized | 0 COMMENTS
As a test cricketer, Mike Whitney was one of the most popular players in the Australian team in the late 80s into the 90s. He played 12 tests and took 39 wickets at an average of 33.97, which was not too shabby. He's also probably the only Australian cricketer to take the field with a 'fro'. These days Mike can be seen weekly on TV hosting his show, Sydney Weekender. What many of you may not know is that Mike can also be seen as lead singer of the Mike Whitney band at regular gigs around Sydney. A few years ...

POSTED BY ROB ON Jan 27, 2016 IN Uncategorized | 0 COMMENTS
Dai Pritchard is an incredibly busy guitar player. When he's not cranking an amp for Rose Tattoo, he's either playing and recording with his own Dai Pritchard Band, the Monsters Of Rock group or the newer Blood, Sweat and Beers project. It makes it even more impressive that he also sets aside time to coach the Newcastle-based Weekend Warriors program, a gig close to his heart. MUSICAL MYTHBUSTERS HEADS DOWNUNDER

POSTED BY ROB ON Jan 6, 2016 IN Uncategorized | 0 COMMENTS

Or the feeling they've hit a plateau and just can't get any better, no matter how much they practice. Or that other feeling that they're not a real musician because they can't read music. These feelings are especially true for self-taught musicians or those who just "play by ear". The feeling that a lack of formal musical training is holding them back is not uncommon amongst musicians, particularly the "Weekend Warrior" who says they just want to gig with ...
